Meets NCHRP 350, TL-3The SKT 350 (Sequential Kinking Terminal) is approved by the Federal Highway Administration as a gating, redirective end treatment. It will safely decelerate 820kg (1,800 lb) to 2,000 kg (4,400 lb) vehicles impacting at speeds up to 100 km/h (62 mph). During head-on impacts, the SKT 350 head slides over the guardrail. The guardrail is sequentially "kinked" or bent as it moves through the head. The kinked guardrail exits the head safely behind the installation. An improved cable anchor bracket solves problems associated with prior designs, further enhancing the energy absorbing process. When impacted from the side within the length of need, the SKT 350 safely redirects the errant vehicle back toward its original travel path. |
Reduced Installation and Maintenance TimeThe SKT 350 uses standard 3.8m (12.5 ft) guardrail sections. The weight of the SKT head is significantly less than other tangent guardrail terminals making installation easier. An innovative foundation tube design eases removal of fractured wood posts. Lowest Activation ForcesThe unique design of the SKT 350 allows the System to be activated with 1/3 lower forces than other tangent end terminal treatments. This means lower impact forces on the occupants of errant vehicles. |
